Description

The Bachelor's Degree in Artificial Intelligence provides the broad, deep and multidisciplinary training that professionals in this field need, and which is essential for successfully building the intelligent services and applications that are having such a major impact on our lives at every level.

It is an inter-university degree within the Galician University System, lasting four years (240 ECTS), in which the subjects of the first two years are common to the three universities (A Coruña, Santiago and Vigo). In the third and fourth years, the Universidade de Vigo offers the Intelligent Information Systems (IIS) track.

IIS are the natural evolution of information systems, integrating techniques for processing large volumes of data through distributed computing systems and using Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms and strategies for management that is more efficient and closer to human decision-making processes.

IIS generate and incorporate capabilities that allow them to behave flexibly and creatively, cooperating with both users and other systems in retrieving, processing and generating data and in solving problems.

Specialisations

The Intelligent Information Systems specialisation of the Bachelor's Degree in Artificial Intelligence is aimed at students interested in acquiring a professional profile that equips them for the automatic and secure exploitation of information flows, whatever their format, type, size and complexity. The aim is to meet the requirements of all kinds of organisations at this level, in both management and decision-making, by designing solutions centred on the application and integration of AI strategies. It is therefore not only a matter of locating existing data for immediate processing in a purely transformational approach, but above all of deriving new information that provides a significant competitive advantage in the application domain.

Applicant profile

No specific prior training is required for this degree, although a good grounding in mathematics and computing is recommended, both for students from humanities and social sciences backgrounds and for those from science and technology backgrounds.

It is equally important to have qualities such as:

  • Creativity
  • Analytical and critical ability
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Reading habit and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to apply fundamentals to problem solving
  • Perseverance and responsibility at work
  • Teamwork skills
  • Effective use of time

Access and admission

  • Higher vocational training qualifications
  • Entrance exam for people over 25 or over 45
  • Previous university degree

Career opportunities

In this specialisation, future graduates will acquire a profile that equips them to design, develop and apply techniques and technologies based on machine learning and automated reasoning, Big Data, natural language processing, and real-time interaction and perception for the development of IIS.
