Description
Biology is considered an essential part of knowledge. For this reason, the Bachelor's Degree in Biology provides knowledge and skills in the morphology, systematics, structure and function of living beings, their intra- and interspecific interactions and their adaptation to the environment around them. One of the aims of the degree is to train professionals capable of producing advances in this field that are essential for the development of society.
Applicant profile
The Bachelor's Degree in Biology requires students to have a range of aptitudes and prior knowledge in the life sciences, as well as a high level of motivation to support their progress through the programme.
- Have a broad knowledge of the basic sciences: physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology. Knowledge of geology is recommended and, if possible, of English, at least at comprehension level
- Express themselves properly orally and in writing
- Be interested in topics related to nature and curious to learn about living beings and their life processes, as well as concerned about environmental problems
- Have powers of observation and analysis, motivation for field and laboratory work, study discipline and a willingness to take an active part in the learning process, with a concern for quality and the motivation to achieve objectives
Access and admission
Students from the Baccalaureate (science or technology track) who have passed the university entrance exam (PAU), as well as higher technicians trained in higher vocational training programmes in the science and health tracks. Graduates of other degrees with a scientific-technical profile may also be admitted.
Career opportunities
- Biomedical and health field: clinical analysis (biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, genetics laboratories…), BIR (resident biologist posts in public hospitals), genetic analysis, human reproduction, nutrition and dietetics, biomedical research
- Environment: environmental impact studies, ecosystem quality analysis and environmental audits, management of protected areas, soil and environmental restoration, waste treatment
- Resources and production: improvement of farming operations (plant, animal and fungal resources), aquaculture, snail farming, beekeeping, introduction of new species, industrial, agricultural and agri-food biotechnology, nurseries, herbalism and gardening, pharmaceutical production (medicines, vaccines, etc.)
