Description
This joint programme was designed essentially with the main aim of improving the training and employability of university students. Combining these degrees goes beyond obtaining two qualifications: it gives students knowledge and competences in both fields, which widens the range of jobs they can aspire to and makes the profile of graduates one of the most attractive on the market for companies, because of its specialisation and, at the same time, its greater versatility.
A person studying the Biomedical Engineering track in the field of signals, electromedicine, electronic instrumentation... will be able to reinforce this content with the other degree, Mechanical Engineering, thereby enriching their training and gaining a broader view of where their knowledge can be applied.
A high percentage of students starting university show an interest in more than one degree, so joint programmes can help improve their options. In other words, a joint programme can help provide a choice that better suits students who wish to cover several things together without having to opt for one of them specifically.
Applicant profile
Studying this option involves great motivation and a concern for acquiring broad knowledge in order to respond properly to the most complex problems. In turn, this joint programme (PCEO) provides more resources for dealing with any kind of situation, covering a much wider range of needs in companies.
Access and admission
- Baccalaureate with the university entrance exam (PAU) passed
- Higher vocational training qualifications
- Entrance exam for people over 25 or over 45
- Previous university degree
Career opportunities
In Biomedical Engineering, the use of sensors to measure parameters for diagnosing diseases is widespread, as is the growing use of electronic devices and instrumentation in diagnosis and in the application of treatments; at the same time, the use of new materials and the design and manufacture of mechanical devices that aid the mobility of people with disabilities are undoubtedly essential elements in the development of the health sector that this degree addresses.
Furthermore, the major progress made by the health sector in recent years would not have been possible without the contribution of new, advanced technologies, which have enabled the development of new solutions to medical and social problems related to diseases and disabilities, the analysis of the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of those solutions, and the management of resources, information systems and communication systems in the health and social care setting.
In addition, students taking this Joint Programme will have an additional degree with regulated professional competences (at the level of Technical Industrial Engineer in Mechanics), which gives them, from the outset, a greater guarantee for their future professional development.
The areas covered by this joint programme are in great demand among companies, which strongly favours professional development. It should be noted that these degrees are very highly regarded on the market and have a long history at the School of Industrial Engineering of the Universidade de Vigo.
