Description

The appeal of the Joint Programme lies in the characteristics of the two degrees that make it up. The content they cover has driven a major change in economic activity thanks to the greater presence of automation and intelligence in increasingly complex processes and products, supported by computing and communications. Likewise, from the point of view of products and systems, the trend is towards greater functionality and precision based on the integration of components and sensors and the introduction of microelectronics together with the techniques of mechanical systems.

The Joint Programme in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering provides the training needed to work professionally in either of the two areas and, more importantly, to carry out highly skilled tasks that require deep knowledge of both fields to be integrated. Innovation in the industrial sector, the new paradigm defined by so-called Industry 4.0, needs this type of professional. The combination of the Mechanical and Industrial Electronics and Automation specialities results in a profile that is much sought after in many industries today.

Applicant profile

Studying this option involves great motivation and a concern for acquiring broad knowledge in order to respond properly to the most complex problems. In turn, this joint programme (PCEO) provides more resources for dealing with any kind of situation, covering a much wider range of needs in companies.

Access and admission

  • Baccalaureate with the university entrance exam (PAU) passed
  • Higher vocational training qualifications
  • Entrance exam for people over 25 or over 45
  • Previous university degree

Career opportunities

This Joint Programme makes it possible to acquire a professional profile along the lines of what could be called Mechatronics engineering, which is in great demand in industry, although Mechatronics is a broader concept. Even so, integration between the fields of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering has now become essential for a large share of companies in the industrial sector which, owing to technological development, are obliged to master knowledge of these two fields of engineering, among others, in their production processes.

Mechanical Engineering graduates design, improve, produce and maintain mechanical devices and systems, components, engines and industrial installations. Their work includes activities of great economic importance for any developed country, such as manufacturing and industrial production systems, transport, machinery, construction and industrial installations. Mechanical Engineering focuses on the design of machines, engines, mechanisms and mechanical systems, so it is closely linked to industrial production systems. The control and automation of those systems to make them faster, safer and more efficient, in turn, belongs to the field of industrial electronics and automation engineering.
